Moving your domain to IT Design.
A domain transfer moves ownership and management of your domain from your current registrar or hosting provider to IT Design. It is a structured process with set timing windows — getting the sequence right keeps your email and website live throughout the move.
This is the full step-by-step. Read it through before you start anything so you know what to expect at each stage.
The six-step transfer process
Give your current registrar written notice
Send written notice to your current domain host that you intend to transfer. Mention that the transfer request will come from domains@itdesign.co.za so they know to release it. Check your contract with them for any notice period you need to observe.Email us your current settings
Send us:- Written confirmation that the domain is ready for release.
- All active email account information — addresses and passwords.
- Hosting control panel information from your current host.
Timing: send this to us at least 15 working days before the transfer date.
We send you the new server settings
We will email you the IT Design server settings you will need after the transfer. Print or save that email — you may need it again during step 5 and 6.Do not change anything yet
Do not update any email settings on your devices yet. Wait until the transfer and propagation period have completed in steps 5 and 6.Transfer authority
We send the official transfer request from domains@itdesign.co.za. At least one party — either the registered owner or the current host — needs to approve the request within 24 hours. This is a name-update step only; nothing about your services changes yet.The transfer happens
After step 4 is approved, the transfer itself runs — typically on the Friday at the end of the notice month. There is a 24–48 hour propagation period as the change works its way through the global DNS system. We recommend you let your key contacts know in advance, so they expect possible short email or website hiccups during this window.Domain transfer in progress
We send you a confirmation that the transfer has started. All services should be fully back online once propagation completes.Hands off during propagation
Do not change any email or hosting settings during the 24–48 hour propagation window. Wait for our all-clear before you touch anything.
After the transfer
Once everything settles, your email program might prompt for updated server settings. If you see a send/receive error after the transfer, that is what it is asking for. Use the server settings we sent you in step 3 to update Outlook, Mac Mail, Windows Mail, Incredimail or whichever email program you use.
